Understanding symptoms of Diabetes

Although there is no permanent cure for diabetes, but identification of this disease at the early stage can save you from many health complications in future. Diabetes is a disease that is caused either because the cells are not responding to insulin produced in body, or because pancreas are not producing needed amount of insulin. Result is that diabetes increases blood sugar levels in the patient.

Increased Thirst and Excessive Urination

When you drink more water to satisfy your thirst, you urinate even more.

As you lose sugar from your body, you lose calories also, which means you lose weight. Due to diabetes your cells don’t get the sugar from your food, which makes you feel hungry all the time. This symptom is visible generally in type 1 diabetes patients.

Fatigue

Low levels of sugar, more urination, dehydration, etc. combine together to make your body weak and you start feeling fatigued.

Blurred Vision

High levels of blood sugar pulls the fluid from your body tissues, this includes the lenses of your eyes. Therefore, it becomes difficult for you to focus and you start experiencing blurred vision.

Frequent Infection and Slow Healing

High levels of blood sugar reduce the natural healing mechanism of your body and thus you are not able to fight infections properly. This makes your body prone to frequent infections and slow recovery from those infections.

Tingling in Feet and Hands

Nerve damage in your body due to excess sugar is common, and this leads to loss of sensation and tingling in your feet and hands. Sometimes you might even feel sense of burning in your feet, legs, hands, and arms.

Tender, Swollen, Red Gums

Your ability to fight germs is effected due to the diabetes. Therefore, there is increase in the risk of having infection in your bones and gums, which are responsible for holding your teeth at their place. Therefore, you would experience symptoms like your teeth getting lose as your gums start to get away from your teeth. This symptom is severe if you already had a gum infection before the onset of diabetes.
